AthletiCo Provides Rehabilitation Services to Local Performing Arts Company
AthletiCo is the Official Provider of Rehabilitation, Fitness, and Performance for the Cerqua Rivera Dance Theatre. Founded in 1996 by a trio of award-winning artists (composer Joe Cerqua, choreographer Wilfredo Rivera, and international painter/muralist Matt Lamb), Cerqua Rivera now employs 40-50 Chicago-based artists per season. AthletiCo provides rehearsal and performance coverage, including on-site injury care, evaluation, and physical therapy to these artists.
Cerqua Rivera is currently in full swing this winter season. The signature performance for the group is the upcoming Sixth Annual Jubilation Concert Series. Opening February 18 at the Athenaeum Theatre in Chicago, the Jubilation concert series commemorates African-American cultural icons in an inspiring presentation of dance, live music, and visual art evoking the stories of some of history’s most significant figures and events. This year’s program will feature four works, all performed to live music by the moving 10-piece CRDT Jazz Orchestra. The program features the premiere of La Danse Libre performed byReginald R. Robinson (Chicago’s preeminent contemporary Ragtime composer) and the revival of Corner Sketches set to the enigmatic sounds of Miles Davis, with choreography by Wilfredo Rivera.
