Have You Performed the Chair Challenge?

New social media challenges arise every day, and one of the latest ones taking the internet by storm is called the chair challenge.
What is it?
This challenge, which has gained popularity on social app TikTok, requires the person performing it to stand facing a wall (with a chair nearby). They take 2- 3 steps backward, one foot right behind the other. Then they lean forward at a 90 degree angle with their head touching the wall. At this point, the nearby chair should be placed in front of them by someone else. Once the chair is in place, the person performing the challenge must lift the chair toward their chest while still bent over. The challenge is then to stand upright while still holding the chair. The sciatic nerve is a large nerve comprised of smaller nerves that originate in the low lumbar and sacral regions of the spine. The sciatic nerve starts in the low back, travels through the buttock, and into the back of your leg. It has branches that travel all the way to the foot. Sciatic symptoms may include pain, numbness, tingling, cramping, burning and weakness in the muscles of the affected leg. There are many reasons why the sciatic nerve may be symptomatic including a herniated disc, narrowing of the nerve space in the spine, or tightness in hip muscles.

This off-season is the perfect time to work on cross-training. Off season training for cyclists should include two important components: injury prevention and performance.
