What to Expect at Your First Therapy Session

Your first visit is all about understanding your condition, goals, and creating a personalized treatment plan.

  • Evaluation and Assessment: Your physical therapist will discuss your medical history, current condition, and goals
  • Movement and Strength Testing: We’ll assess your mobility, strength, and functional abilities
  • Personalized Treatment Plan: Based on your evaluation, your therapist will develop a customized therapy plan
  • Hands-On Treatment and Exercise: You may begin treatment during your first session

Preparing for Your First Visit:

  • Verify Your Insurance Benefits: Contact your insurance provider ahead of time to confirm your coverage, co-pays, deductibles, and any out-of-pocket costs related to physical therapy.

Your Personalized Treatment Plan

After your initial evaluation, you’ll start follow-up treatments designed to help you regain strength, mobility, and function.

  • Therapeutic Exercises – Guided movements to improve strength, flexibility, and balance
  • Specialized Techniques – Hands-on therapy and advanced techniques to enhance recovery
  • Heat & Cold Therapy – used as needed to reduce pain, swelling, or stiffness
  • Home Exercise Program Review – Your therapist will discuss your progress and adjust your at-home exercises.
  • Ongoing Education – Learn about your condition, recovery process, and ways to prevent future injury.

What Happens Next?

Your recovery journey is unique to you, and we’re with you every step of the way.

  • Regular Appointments – Staying committed to your recommended therapy schedule is key to your progress. Attending all sessions as prescribed by your therapist will help you recover more effectively and prevent setbacks. Quitting early may slow your recovery or lead to recurring issues.
  • Home Exercise Program & Remote Therapeutic Monitoring – Exercising at home as prescribed by your therapist will help speed up your recovery and enhance your results. Additionally, patients who enroll in Remote Therapeutic Monitoring (RTM) have been shown to improve pain and function by 34%. With the support of our dedicated care navigators, RTM helps you stay connected between clinic visits with ongoing motivation, reminders, and guidance – all designed to keep you on track and help you achieve your recovery goals.
  • Progress Monitoring & Plan Adjustments – Your therapist will continuously assess your progress to ensure you’re improving as expected. Each session provides an opportunity to adjust your treatment plan based on your recovery, challenges, and goals. We track key improvements in pain levels, mobility, and strength to keep you on the best path forward. Staying consistent with therapy allows us to fine-tune your care for the best results.
  • Discharge & Long-Term Success – Reaching the end of your therapy program doesn’t mean your journey stops! Before discharge, your therapist will provide you with a personalized plan to help you continue building strength, prevent future injuries, and maintain your progress. We’ll equip you with the knowledge, exercises, and tools to stay active and pain-free long after therapy ends. Additionally, we’ll periodically check in with you after discharge to see how you’re feeling. If you experience any pain or discomfort, we will encourage you to return so we can help you get back on track with your health and movement goals.

At Athletico, we are passionate about providing exceptional care because we believe in making a real difference in our patients’ lives. Our mission is Extraordinary People Improving Lives, and we’ve helped hundreds of thousands of patients get back to doing what they love.
