Active Release Techniques® (ART)
As part of your physical therapy treatment, Active Release Techniques® (ART) is a soft-tissue mobilization technique that treats conditions such as headaches, back pains, plantar fasciitis, and knee problems, which are often associated with overused muscles, tendons, ligaments, and nerves.
Persistent pain and restriction of motion can be caused by a build-up of scar tissue after an injury, affecting the body’s soft tissue. Such injuries often do not show up in x-rays, which make them difficult to diagnose and treat with traditional methods. Trained to identify and treat a variety of soft-tissue conditions, ART-certified physical therapists use a hands-on technique involving your body’s natural motion to break up scar tissue and restore motion to affected areas.
An Active Release Techniques certified therapist can treat any soft-tissue injury including muscles, ligaments, tendons, and nerve entrapments of the upper extremity, lower extremity, and/or spine.
